illRoots.com & 4.27.07 Creative Present: Overdose on Life Episode 100

illRoots.com Presents Behind the Scenes for "Overdose on Life" from Hallway Jay + Waxx + Kinggs on Vimeo.
My big homie Omen has an album coming out here is that exclusive behind the scenes footage of "Overdose on Life" featuring Mickey Factz, Drake, and Travis from the Gym Class Heroes. Look out for Parts 200 & 300 coming real soon. As well after the Jump check out our exclusive interview [This is Part Un, look forward to Part Deux and Part Trois] with the big homie Omen whom produced this track as well as several others from "Tell It Like Is" off Ludacris' Release Therapy album to "One Day" by Fabolous off of his Ghetto Fabolous album....Enter Omen...illRoots.com: First off thanks big homie but let me know What albums in 08 are you looking forward to hearing and why?
Omen: Detox cause the Dr is a definite inspiration to Hip Hop and always brings a new sound, Nas Nigger Album cause its about time for a change with hip hop. Eminem cause he learned and experience alot that im sure will be a historical record oh and of course The Be Judge Album [Laughs]
illRoots.com: [Laughs] Of course anything else would be uncivilized.
Omen: Right. I was looking forward to Carter #3 but i think we are hearing enough of Carter 3
illRoots.com: True indeed. So Independent or Major?
Omen: Indie
illRoots.com: How come?
Omen: Right now its like Majors are losing steam and sleep. As long as u control your masters and your pub and issues licenses your a self contained unit. If you deal with a Major I feel you should already be a seasoned artist, newcomers should build their own machine
illRoots.com: I can see that with all the technology and ways to become self sufficient why not.
Omen: Right.
illRoots.com: So before music what were you doing?
Omen: I was drawing and planning to work for Marvel Comics.
illRoots.com: So what detered you from that?
Omen: It was super competitive.
illRoots.com: And music isn't?
Omen: And I got caught up in Hip Hop Heavy, yeah Music is too
illRoots.com: Okay so your Weapons of Choice in the lab what can we see you working with?
Omen: Mpc 2500, Motif, Garage Band, Logic, Pro Tools, and mad sounds. Also I incorporate live musicians alot like Overdose on Life was a mixture of Mpc and Midi sounds along with a Live Harp.
illRoots.com: Word a live harp. Nothing like live instrumentation.
Omen: Yeah she was amazing. A young black sister name Brandee Younger
illRoots.com: Word thats great.
Omen: Also played on Common's BE album I will have her on alot of trakcks
illRoots.com: So not looking forward to Common's new joint?
Omen: Oh yeah, how could i forget Invincible summer
illRoots.com: Cmon, Homie. That joint better be good though. I'm a huge Common Sense fan
Omen: Yeah Common is a definite.
illRoots.com: Resurrection on tape
Omen: Right.
illRoots.com: Unopened.
Omen: Same here mine is stolen.I want to get Common on the album but one thing I realized with making a dope album no one believes you until you get high acclaim. You can reach out to certain artist and tell them "Be a part of this" and they might not see the vision but when the album does good now its on everyones radar
illRoots.com: I mean hindsight is 20/20
Omen: Right. But if music is about energy I shouldn't see why artists and producers don't gravitate to that energy
in being part of a classic album, like say method man never got back at Biggie to get on ready to die.
illRoots.com: Either way we can't tell the future but who is already on the album that you can disclose.
Omen: I got Travis from Gym Class Heroes, of course Mickey Factz and my Boy Drake from Toronto.Who is a beast and he's on a syndicated tv sitcom and spittin flames like that, Degrassi The Next Generation
illRoots.com: Thats ill.
Omen: i never checked out the show like that but chicks stop him everywhere and shit [Laughs] but yeah I got Block Xchange off of DTP accompanied by Ludacris, my boy 4ize. Disturbing Tha Peace will have a good influence on the album
illRoots.com: So your rapping or just producing?
Omen: I will spit a little bit. I got a producer driven track titled ..The Craft. Where who knows Dr Dre might get on it, with Dj Premier on the cuts, and Hav from Mobb Deep, maybe Kanye would lend a 16. Its about the art of cooking up a classic, thats gonna be a producer anthem.
illRoots.com: I can see.So when shall we see this come to fruition, your album and all?
Omen: Late Fall, Now its time to build the Momentum. Oh I forgot Ludacris' Album is definite what I am checking for this year, "Theatre of the mind", 4th Quarter is a Heavy Weight Quarter but I'm not worried about that. It's gonna be the tail end of the 3rd Quarter.
illRoots.com: What do you see after music?
Omen: Music always gon be in my life. Either if i'm Teaching and Empowering the Youth or Scoring Films or Making Music Technology. Honestly I have a Comic Book Company in the works so that 360 is gonna come into effect

illRoots.com: So lastly fill in the blank: Omen is _______.

Omen: A Sign Of Things To Come.
Thanks Omen for sitting down with us and hopefully the people are ready for Part 2 & 3 .As always the man has put in work as you can see below. Part Deux & Trois coming soon...
