Cory Gunz sat down with us at our very first SMPL + MTH show to speak on a few things as well as give another great performance. Look out for some big news from Mr. Gunz real soon as some of that ink should be drying soon enough to speak on. Thanks again to Potential.
Donnis came out to Chicago a couple weeks ago to perform at Lincoln Hall for Jugrnaut’s Pop Them Thangs event. While there, Mike Carson and I rolled over to his hotel the next day where he was shooting a music video for ‘Yupp’, a track off his upcoming mixtape. We chopped it up before the shoot started, talking about everything from making the 2010 XXL Freshman list, his debut album on Atlantic Records, working with Fools Gold, how being in the military affected his music and more.
The hype has been Tweeted, now you can cop your own illRootsilver Tee. Silver ink on a black shirt. Perfect. We only printed a few pieces as a test, so if they sell well, more will be coming. For now however, be quick and get your hands on the first run!

ALIen kills this again. Although the audio seemed to have messed up a little, he still goes in. Yes, this is another Visual Vinyl x illRoots operation.
When Mos Def stopped thru LA a few weeks ago we jumped at the chance to click some frames of him thanks to Hallway, our Illroots family. There are very few MC’s that can rock a crowd in plaid pants and suspenders. Mos is one of them. What became of our visit with the mighty, was something we didn’t even think of until after.
This is a series of Ecstatic Movements capturing the energy of Mos Def in a way no one has ever done before. The method is old school, the experience is true school. In Ecstatic Movements the art and style of Mos Def is frozen in time, caught somewhere between a still photo and a full motion video. This series is set to a really fresh remix of History by Mos Def featuring Talib Kweli created by Scotty Nevers.
Hevehitta and DJ Unexpected have teamed up yet again, with illRoots riding shotgun, to provide quite the musical biography of one of BK’s finest, Talib Kweli.
