illRoots ‘Blackout 2′ Remix Contest Update

So we got an incredible turnout to this contest and have narrowed it down to 25 finalists, in no particular order. A winner will not be chosen today, but will be chosen very soon. The winner will be chosen by Buckwild still and this is just the Top 25 submissions that were received. Since we won’t be choosing a winner today I personally uploaded all 25 remixes so that you, the people, could make a decision on who you personally like. Please do not get this twisted as we are not asking you to vote on the producer. This is mainly for the producers to know who made it to the Top 25. May 28th, 2009 at 8:02 pm
“so that you, the people, could make a decision on who you like”
Doesn’t that seem like it would become a bit of a popularity contest?
May 28th, 2009 at 8:03 pm
so far i go with roads-ar
May 28th, 2009 at 8:06 pm
Wow is Buck is responsible for picking these, that dude needs a smack in the ears. More than half of these suck large animal cock. What a let down…
This contest = Fail
May 28th, 2009 at 8:07 pm
Naw not a popularity contest because Buck is still judging it. We had over 280 entries and we narrowed it down. I figured it right that at the very least people could see the final 25.
May 28th, 2009 at 8:07 pm
if that is. if he is..
May 28th, 2009 at 8:10 pm
sorry for my bandmate being a silly goose
May 28th, 2009 at 8:11 pm
@Blubrdhndwrtng
I’m pretty sure what we say in the comments isn’t going to affect their decision.
May 28th, 2009 at 8:17 pm
Thanks for putting all those up!
May 28th, 2009 at 8:19 pm
L-Precise all the way!!
May 28th, 2009 at 8:25 pm
Some of that list is dope and some seems peculiarly wack. I go Cookin’ Soul, which is the first i heard anyway. Has any heard the Boassaurus remix at their myspace? The fact that that isn’t on here is kind of strange considering this list as a whole. Don’t sleep on that one if you all missed it, did you hear it hallway jay?
May 28th, 2009 at 8:26 pm
I mean i just listened to a bunch of these…
Alot of them just sound like some basic “i played around with fruity loops” beats so you could definitely seperate the weak from the obsolete to quote biggie…
I think Cookin’ Soul’s was definitely one of the best…i also did like Blue Bird Handwritings…using the rocky thing ha
May 28th, 2009 at 8:27 pm
Cookin souls prob got it…
I mean the original is really hard to top tho…that grimy beat was ill with the track so its hard to even compare the remixes to the original
May 28th, 2009 at 8:43 pm
Yo are yall serious mane? No wonder why nobody real fucks with red and mef anymore… atleast have the balls to listen to every track and decide for yourselves. Every time you cant solve a problem, you ganna let the fans decide?
Look at the album sales foo… blackout 2 went double woo…D!
When you need some steroid beats for your wack lyrics and hooks, get at me
-Don’t get it twisted, i’m not hatin… keepin it real, and somewhere down the road, yall got fake as shitt mane.
May 28th, 2009 at 8:58 pm

May 28th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
I liked a few but gotta go with Quincey Tones for something different
May 28th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
Yes, which is something you lack.
But its okay though, you know how the old sayin goes :”real recognize real, thats why i dont look familiar to your fake-ass kind.
Do you Speak your mind, or do you like being confined?
May 28th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
Happy 2 b in the top 25 with some other real good remixes, thanks illroots for the opportunity. DJ Workerman, CTMA Ent.
May 28th, 2009 at 9:46 pm
keep it easy Goddamnbawse, the competition is still being judged by buck. if you read the first couple of comments you’d know that.
May 28th, 2009 at 9:55 pm
what a joke, you call this hip hop, half of these tracks are weak as hell. you’re putting beats over two legends in the game who have rapped over some of the best beats ever and yall putting this garbage over it, get out the game and stop polluting it…
May 28th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
Whew I made top 25 word, If i couldnt choose my own i woul go wit Cooking Soul, Thanks For the opportunity To ill Roots BIG UP
May 28th, 2009 at 10:04 pm
Yeah but most the top 25 is some simple high school fruityloops work.. comon mane im just pissed this is what people determine as good music. I can’t front on cookin soul, or quincy, but the rest….. comon…. seriously? haha
May 28th, 2009 at 10:06 pm
edit: I hope buck isn’t choosing the best outta this so called “top 25″

May 29th, 2009 at 2:33 am
I’ll have to go with MIDIOTS. Their remix is definetly the one that moulds better over the aggresivity of the voice and lyrics. MIDIOTS!
May 29th, 2009 at 2:47 am
I hate to sound like a whiner, but I would really like some clarity on who and by what criteria many of these selections were made. I really don’t want to hate on anybody, I just want to know what judges are looking for in the future and what elements of my production need work. Other producers (top 25 or not) if you wanna weigh in please listen to my remix and tell me what could have been done better. You can comment back here or hit me at :

i took a “L” in this contest. but it shows me that i need to step my game up musically….one love!!!
May 29th, 2009 at 4:46 am
A lot of terrible cookie cutter shite here – that said, nice one for not including the Bossasaurus remix – way too much myspace hype, no substance.
Same old beats, same ideas, same arrangement – this is why hip hop is fucked and can’t shift real units anymore. Everyone sounds like either Timbaland, Dilla or Kanye now – where are the originators? Or at least people copying something a bit fresher.
May 29th, 2009 at 4:57 am
damn, im a at college, cant listen to all this right now.
May 29th, 2009 at 4:57 am
will do, soon as i get home.
looking forward to this
May 29th, 2009 at 6:28 am
My prefer finalists are Cookin’ Soul and DJ Snips.
I think that the Cookin’ Soul’s track sounds very good but is too jazzy and relaxing for the lyrics.
The DJ Snips’s track is more suitable in my opinion.
Peace.
May 29th, 2009 at 8:57 am
I’d definitely say either Quincy Tones or Cookin Soul…some of the other are alright…by they’d be my pick
May 29th, 2009 at 9:25 am

Dave Tee’s comment is some major bs and I bet he hasn’t even listened to our music. There is no reason to hate on us for doing well on myspace. We work hard at this shit and if you listen to the music it shows immediately.
See for yourself

To those people, who feel confused about being left out of the top 25. We just got this message from Hallway Jay explaining what may have happened:
We didn’t got about narrowing this down at all, but I do know that if there was two or more emails from the same email address that the track got deleted without listening to the track. This mainly was done because we said only one submission. So regardless if it was just a message in one email and a beat in another, when you have such a high volumen the first thing that is done is going over and see who followed instructions. Not to say that your beat is horrible by any sense of the imagination but I’m almost sure the people who narrowed this down did that first and then took a look at the beats. So in clarifying if you sent more than one email to the address than your beat got overlooked. I know I took a look at the entries just to see how many we had and there were several people that sent more than one email so this may have happened to you, I’m not sure. Hopefully this clarify’s the situation. We do appreciate your participation though.
I hope this gives some people more of a piece of mind. We sent a second e-mail with our physical addresses (extra contact info) and this is def what happened to ours.
Peace
May 29th, 2009 at 12:52 pm
shit man, the cookin’ soul remix is alright, but it ain’t mouldin’ to the lyrics. take the damn song for granted, not the beat! i still think the Midiot remix is ill. Snip is alright, actually, these two guys are the best here.
May 29th, 2009 at 12:54 pm
yo, bossasaurus, loosing is loosing. and winning, as they say in ast and furious 4, it doesn’t matter if you winby a inch or a mile, it’s still winning.
May 29th, 2009 at 1:07 pm
@leev… and spelling is spelling and Fast and Furious 4 is a philosophical goldmine. Thanks for lacing us with your jewels of thought.
May 29th, 2009 at 1:25 pm
I listened to all the remixes and I really liked some of them, especially the one made by the Midiots. The way that Meth’s and Red’s flow goes with that beat it’s crazy, so props for that. Good job, MIDIOTS!!!
May 29th, 2009 at 3:13 pm

May 29th, 2009 at 10:24 pm
All of you seem to have forgotten what a remix really is, almost none of the top 25 prods changed the song around. Midiots rmx. was decent, Owen Chaim had a good beats, and DJ Snips was alright, but none of them seemed to capture what was important. Th song is called Dangerous Mcees, most of the submissions sounded like a soft porn soundtrack. The best, by far, was Yuto Nagayama, his was the perfect blend of hip hop, with a suprising twist, it was dangerous and exciting, and really deserves to win more than any other song here.
Go Yuto Nagayama, and even if you don’t win, we all know you deserve it.
May 29th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
WHERE IN THE HELLL IS BOSSASAuRUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
May 29th, 2009 at 11:03 pm
Bossasaurus? They’re off trying to make a half decent song, because the one they submited sucks dino long schlong.
May 29th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
Sorry, I meant…………………..spikey. stinky, shriveled, smelly, shitty, spotted, speckled and soooooooooooo out of date DINO LONG SHLONG!!!!!!!!! Bossasaurus, you really are extinct.
May 30th, 2009 at 4:50 am
many dope remixes, too hard to decide.
May 30th, 2009 at 10:33 pm
Yeah I agree with Bawse for the most part, sounds like a lot of high school fruityloops 4 demo version lol. But I think out of all it’s gotta be cookin soul, came with it crazy!
May 31st, 2009 at 2:54 am
I’m liking that Owen Chaim remix the best, the guy kept it real simple, but it works good that way. Good work dude! It sounds a little dangerous too, which is the way this remix should be I think. Not with all these jazz samples (which, in my humble opinion, work great in other songs, just not for a song called DANGEROUS MCEES????).
And not to step on anyones toes here, but, in my mind, so many of these mixes seem to be just the original song with different music…….last time I checked remixes consisted of messing with the original elements a little more.
Anyways, everyone did an awesome job, and im sure the best man will win. Good luck everyone! Cheers.
May 31st, 2009 at 2:58 am
Im really happy about going through to round two.. I feel I went a different route and gave the beat a more angry vibe to red & Meth..
But whassup with this site – Whassup with all the hating ?
So what your beat didnt make it – Do better !! Stop look on another man’s work and keep your complaining to yourself.. You too can stop being a B**** N**** today…
VohnBeatz – I like the abstract vibe in your beat..
Remot – Nice morning beat.. I would’ve chosen a more hard edge on this..
Ricardo Cabes – Hard drums and nice ride..
Midiots – Not many surprizes, but it’s sounds professional..
Elias – I like the energy in this one..
DJ Workerman – Nice for the night club..
THOR – Nice buildup of the joint..
Quincey Tones – Sounds like a european version, nice touch..
Cookin’ Soul – Smooth and silky..
Yuto Nagayama – Roughneck Riddim..
Owen Chaim – A bit low.. But superb breaks and perfect for driving..
Apple Juice Kid – That’s the way I like it.. Funny idea..
May 31st, 2009 at 3:31 am
Bluebird Handwriting – A little messy, but I like the sound in it..
12e LEGO BLACK – West coast ride sounds..
S.T.T.R.E.S.S. – Banging and a masters work..
L-PRECISE – I like the form it takes in the verses.. Nice touch..
N-Jin – Nice little penguin tune.. Hypnotic..
Theory Hazit – A bit to easy loop, but I feel the buildup..
DJ Dezo – I dont feel that so much.. I need a stronger approach..
Roads-Art – Chinatown tunes was my first thought – Very KayGee like..
Donny Knots – Nice feel in this.. Simple but strong..
Vik Vega – It didnt catch me first, but there’s a summer madness over this one
Isbjerg – Wow ! The winner !! Would I write anything else on this one ?
Carl M. Cartagena – 90s sound.. Catchy..
DJ Snips – Nice drama !

June 2nd, 2009 at 8:56 am
I listened to the 25 remixes and many of them I seem pretty weak, but I think the “battle” will be between Cookin’ Soul and Midiots . I like more Midiots, so good job guys !!! the remix is crazyy !!
June 2nd, 2009 at 11:08 am
Some of these don’t even say “Dangerous Mcs” in the SONG !! That’s supposed to be the damn HOOK !! Did ya’ll even listen to these all the way through ??

June 4th, 2009 at 11:52 am
i just came across this contest, and the best remix by far is the one made by Midiots.
Great job!!! it really sounds up to date, as it should.
