I’ve been hearing a ton of local buzz about this guy. There aren’t to many good rappers from Connecticut, but when there is it seems like everyone in my high school starts talking about it.
This currently being the case for Chris Webby, local CT rapper who is currently attending Hofstra University in Long Island.

he fucking kills asher. La La La is one of my favorite songs, and the rhymes he puts down over ashers i love college completely kills the original.

his timing is great. For a mixtape there are some songs that arent solid, but most of them are. and wake up has opening lines that give me a chill down my spine everytime i listen to it

So these comparisons to asher roth only show the trouble for this white rapper. Basically Asher made his name first and has the fanbase to back so from here on out, the comparisons will come and Webby won’t ever be evaluated on his own, as he should be.
While many might say that this Webby character is better, it is only because his lyrics are easier for internet simpletons to understand. Im not saying that dude can’t spit, he’s got skills but Asher just has more depth and deeper consciousness. this leaves more room for growth as an artist. Eventually we all grow up and get tired of the dumb shit that entertains us in college, (or we all should grow up but thats another story). Then again, maybe this recent arrest that has been spoken of will affect change in Webby’s life and he will grow up and start making important music with a progressive message.
I would like to applaud the disc for the lyrical potential it shows but urge this kid to stop using weak punchlines and develop as an artist with a message besides getting fucked up. You’re in a position to speak to a lot of people and you could influence people in better ways because you can obviously rhyme well enough, now just learn to think differently.

Believe it or not, there’s a difference between the only song you’re famous for, and the rest of your songs. I know…crazy, right?
I Love College isn’t deep, but many of Asher’s other songs, both topical and just stream-of-consciousness, just show more maturity in the lyricism. Some of Asher’s other songs are stupid, too, but he usually goes above and beyond girls and weed, and handles both topics well anyway.
I agree a million percent with Ben Boogie. Webby’s got a looooooooootttt of potential, but he needs to grow up in terms of subject matter and style. He can do that without compromising who he his.

Asher isn’t really for everyone.. Like he’s nice, but he puts to much emphasis on being from the Suburbs and what not. But more people can relate to Webby and his music, he’s just like a goofy kid making music. If you take this stuff to seriously you’re music is going to suck. Plus, Besides for I Love College Asher can’t even really write songs. Be By Myself? Comeon thats garbage and we all know it.

I just listened to this kid…& i’m not a hater, but in my oppinion this kid has got no originality…if drugs dont make you dumb, why don’t you talk about more sophisticated subjects? i’ve heard so many artists out here in CT that sound soo much better than this kid…i mean i respect his hustle, but it’s time for real rap to emerge, its time for real rap to shine…this is “goofy rap”…would laugh if this kid actually makes it in the music industry..i agree with Ilbeheresoon…he shouldnt make it past these blog sites

he is pretty dope, but punchlines arent “bonkers” like someone said, he’s good but no as good as asher, and i only said that cuz yall all compared him to asher…why is that? cuz he’s white? who the fuck cares if he’s white judge him off his talent, honestly, he’s a good artist and everybody can improve he can only get better, atleast he has the whole “makin a song” thing down, now he has to step it up in the lyrics department, but he’ll come through kid is hustlin…the arrested thing only gives him street cred lmaoo, sadly but its true, whether he spits bout “real” shit now or later is up to him, but u gotta understand u MUST please the radio first to “make it big” or else ur goin nowhere, so as long as he can pump out hot songs for the radio and have lyrical tracks on the album he’ll be in good shape.
