Soulja Boy Says Nas Killed Hip-Hop

SMH!!! But in a way, I have a similar feeling.
Before Nas went that whole route, the whole question of whether or not hip-hop is dead was never really as touchy of a subject as it is now. In every genre of music there are commercial acts that other artists hate for making poppy, mainstream music. That’s the music industry. Do you think Iggy Pop is a Nickelback fan? How about Ted Nugent having Avril Lavigne in his iPod? Unlikely. One could argue that every genre of music is dead. That is so utterly false. Hip-hop especially is one of the most active, up to the minute genre’s of music ever. Do you see rock bands dropping mixtapes once a week? No. Hip-hop is alive and it’s heartbeat is at an all time high. Stop complaining, open your eyes and do you! God damn. [/rant]
Either way, i’m loling at this “S.O.D. Money Gang Round Table Discussion”.

well ever since Nas said hip hop was dead, it maked music a little better because everyone was challenged and everyone stepped their game up

  2. Cameron Says:

Nas saying what he said may be one of the best things that happened in hip hop. If he didnt say that, then people wouldnt have been challenged and nobody would have stepped their game up

  3. Oh! Says:

    Alive & Vibrant indeed

Souljah Boy shows the poor schooling most American public schools provide…

His logic makes absolutely no sense. People have been saying hip hop is dead. And Nas’ career was enhanced by him revving up that whole controversy. Saying that didn’t stifle him, if any thing it brought him more into the mainstream. And though I don’t agree with everything Nas says, I’d take him any day over this minstrel. I know this dude is a kid, but it’s not an excuse for ignorance. I know plenty of kids his age who don’t have to curse every other word, are getting good grades, and who talk about more than chains.

It was kinda funny watching SB’s lackey’s though…they seem to have no original thoughts. *Chew food, chew food, mmhmm, you right son*

  5. ThaTruth Says:

This kid is mad ignorant. Rappers have always been sayin that they were the best rapper alive. People were sayin’ hip hop was dead before Nas said it. People were even sayin’ that Soldier Boy killed hip hop before Ice T said it. This kid is unbelievable. Everytime this boy talks he talks out his ass. And his boys sittin’ there just agreein’ with him on everything.

  6. PSONCHIS Says:

This poor kid is the definition of CB4 wackster. Understand, when Ice Cube went after the Easy-E, is because, the market enslaved this dude to be a fake gangster, which is exactly the way solija boy is dressed with the dick long swinging chain, hat turned backwards with no shirt and demeanor = Easy-E, CB4. Sadly this kid does not even know of the words he spits out of his mouth. Because, Lil Wayne was not the first dude to say, “Best Rapper Alive!” THERE WAS BIG DADDY KANE, KRS 1, ICE T, ICE CUBE, RAHKIM, NAS, BIGGIE, JAY-Z, ETC, that all said it way before Lil Wayne said it to the decades before him even being thought of.

This poor kid does not even know that Cassidy did a anthem on it, having Jay-Z spit the chorus, again way before lil Gay, I mean Wayne. But, I am not mad at the kid for not knowing his HIP HOP HISTORY, this is the way of the world today which is to create obedient slaves for the illuminati, I am just disappointed that he is employed in Hip Hop and he does not understand it. So, like the rest of the CB4 gangsters before him, he’s dying slowly, 10 years from now everybody will be like what happened to this and that clown, and the answer is, IF DON’T KNOW THE KNOWLEDGE OF YOUR BUSINESS THEN YOU WILL BE DOWN SIZED WITH IT. ALSO, THE POOR KID IS GOING AFTER THE SOUL OF HIP HOP WHICH IS SELF DESTRUCTION AND I GURANTEE ALOT OF TRUE INFLUENCES SUCH AS YOUNG JEEZY, GAME, JAY-Z TO EVEN LIL WAYNE IS GOING TO SAY WORDS BEFORE NAS EVEN ATTEMPTS. THE SOLIJA KID JUST SIGNED HIS OWN DEATH WARRANT IN THIS ONE.

    PEACE

i think soulja boy should be dead
i wonder if nas would respond to this whack ass biotch

soulja is freaking ignorant for real!

  17. igotit4free Says:

HipHop has never been dead because it’s a movement. I say those words with strong emphaisis on movement. Hiphop has always been and will always be freedom of speech in the form of art, music, dance, fashion etc. Who are we to judge what hiphop is, if it’s suppose to represent creativity, and the freedom to express. People try to define hiphop so much… what is hiphop ,what isnt, when most of the conversations about “what is hiphop”stems from low record sells , or radio spins. Let’s be honest when you in the club , you feeling good (by your choice of intoxication if perfered) you don’t want to hear Wale’s Warwick Ave you wanna hear Wale’s Nike Boots. But when you leave the club and you sitting in car (by your choice of intoxication if you perfer) you wanna hear some thought provoking music. So you can’t say Souljah Boy isnt hiphop anymore then Nas. Only question you can ask is who is the better MC? .

Hiphop isnt dead there is music being made everyday, the people running hiphop are dead. Labels are beginning ran by a bunch of old guys that are dying (the guys behind the Puffy’s, the Jayz, even the biggest Labels Such as Universal has another company that it answers to.) . Most record labels still don’t know how to market/promote urban music, they are just getting how to market pop…they are always looking for new ways, jumping on bandwagons spending to much money on promo.

The radio stations are dead there is so much fine print to getting a record played (including payola), the program directors are fallin alseep not listening to their staff .The same old list gets played. If don’t like a song they will force it down your throat because they would hate to upset certain people, that do certain things (politics)

(with great power much is expected)- Media is the curse and the gift of the music industry.
Websites are copycats, politics and rumored filled (most sites bring down the image of hiphop instead of building it up)If hiphop is all about truth, why report lies (rumors aka spin) its bad enough that mediatakeout.com is being consider news. There are very few sites that don’t cater to rumors (to name a few illroots.com, igotit4free.com, elitaste.com, worldstarhiphop, certain blogsites etc). Then to get featured on these sites you have to have a buzz which is where the number games comes in for example: a new artist signed wants to be featured on a site that according to alexa is in the top 100000 but in order for the artist to be featured they need to have one of the following money to pay the editor, a crazy internet buzz, or a bad azz publicist. For upcoming sites to feature these new artist it’s the samething they need to be in the top 100000 to feature these artists, or you can know the artist(which isnt hard nowadays once again politics). For example I work with Rock City they were on a certain hiphop site tour, the reason I was told they songs werent featured on the site was because they didn’t have a release date hmmmm (BS) If I would have handed some dough cheese over it would have been different. I was also told they needed to build a rapport (aka build a money line) but what’s hot is hot right???

Lil Wayne said the DJ is dead and the DJ’s went crazy but in all honesty they are tangled up right along with the politics of hiphop (after lil wayne said that there was this big commotion aka conference call sponsered by http://www.mixxbosses.com (shoutsout to DJ Panic) which had top DJ’s on the call including Greg Streets, Khaled (Ace Hood) , Yung Joc, and JD was said to be listening in all they did was rap about artist not putting them on, starting a movement to stick together, not playing Lil Wayne, promoting their business(what this call should have been about it wasn’t instead it was a bunch of Dj’s cryin cause they wasn’t Major) etc …they havent had one since, where is the movement. The DJ isnt dead the craftmanship of the DJ is dead. What happen to the DJ’s scratching using real turntables? I love my DJ’s but I love a DJ that’s acknowledges the turntables as well.

Last but not least Why do people use Souljah Boy name as a excuse when their records don’t sell. Don’t get me wrong I think he rap game is wack but his business side is a beast. I mean really he has the media eating out of his hand, everytime he says something the media jumps on it. My only beef with souljah boy is that he doesn’t pay homage to all those before him, including his ancestors that broke racial chains, enough of the excuses about him being a kid blah blah blah his ingorance and the fact that he is not willing to learn makes him bubble gum music…

Damn illroots Imma stop I don’t wanna ruffle any feathers or get blackmailed…lmao freedom of speech

  18. Dae Dae Says:

soulja just tryin ta make headlines since his album flopped nuff said

  19. amBIGuous1 Says:

you are all foolish if you think Nas was the first one to say hip hop is dead. Talib said it a long time ago and so did Common.
That is just the 2 that i know for a fact said it before 2006

  20. amBIGuous1 Says:

    @ Igotit4free

I agree to an extent…i think ur ish was long lol.
But i strongly emphasize these words…..Movement Doesnt Mean Action!!

  21. GmickB Says:

hiphop is like jazz – still alive in academic circles, but really only alive in the form of debate. as a movement, though, it’s over. all movements end the minute they get co-opted by the establishment. there will be no more fighting the power, or fucking the police. at least not by hiphoppers. hiphop may not be officially dead until “new york state of mind” is the official themesong for NYS dept of tourism, but it’s pretty much there. when number of records sold determines an artist’s dopeness, well, that’s the end.

here’s to the next genre. may it be blamed for as much violence and stupidity as hiphop was!

  22. steamboat Says:

oh my lord. Who in the world wrote this fraeking article above me? That’s way 2 long dude

  23. .. Says:

You know, so I say what I say
And I say what I say, and I mean it
Y’all take it how you wanna take it
Cause if you’re askin’ – Why is hip-hop dead?
It’s a pretty good chance you’re the reason it died, man
It’s a pretty good chance your lame ass, corny ass, is the reason it died, man
You don’t give a fuck about, you don’t know nothin’ about it
You want this paper, be a hustler
    You a hustler, you ain’t a rapper
    Get your paper man
YouknowwhatI’msayin, but this rap shit is real
Bitch, this shit is real, bitch, ha-ha

anywho, someone please shoot soulja boy already PLEASE.

I can’t wait to hear what Nas has to say about this ignorant fool!

  27. teamdef88 Says:

i just hope nas gets a hold of this, i really do .

perhaps a nice diss track would shut him up. who the hell does he think he is first of all?

the fact that he said nas killed hip hop? wow, what is this world coming to?

  28. teamdef88 Says:

why does he look liike e.t?

  29. Played Says:

As long as there are 12 year old black girls and 8 year old white boys, there will always be a need for “Soulja Boys”…..and take that iMac and Macbook away from that fool….those are Man’s tools….

  30. s10soul Says:

if nas doesnt get soulja boy dumbass,
then im pretty sure nas fans will get this lil faggg ass rapper
he needs to throw a shirt on
looks like a black skeletor son of bitch

  31. illmatik Says:

    smh
i doubt nas is going to diss him…

  32. thelonious1up Says:

I don’t think Nas would even give this the time of day
Album sales got fucked up by ringtones, radio, and people downloading music
    ie Soulja Boy
Nas created a new way of expression that had rappers stepping their game up
But Nas isn’t the first one to express the death of hip hop
Andre 3000, Talib, and Common surely have expressed well before Nas made it a staple
I just think this is ridiculous for Soulja Boy to come at one the best MC’s of all time

  33. Chavo Says:

soulja boy better keep his mouth shut and THINK ABOUT WHAT HE IS SAYIN. i cant believe he would just say that about nas, a hip hop legend!!!!! i hope soulja boy doesnt talk anymore because he is gonna target the wrong person and someone might do something to his ass not like nas who probably doesn’t have the time to mess with someone like soulja boy. the only reason he was that so called “one hit wonder” was because of his little dance. hip hop is about the struggle not dancing.

  34. rumsone Says:

He need to do a bit more home work
I likes soulja boy and all but ahhhh
He needs to do a bit more home work before he starts releasing shit likethat and letting it fly out.

may be he was talking with his dudes , aint nothing wrong with kicking with ur dudes (no homo) but, i hope he dont try to go all the way with that statement.
he is showing his age with that statement he is showing how young he is in hiphop
Ice t is right one point, Soulja boy is a LIL NIG he can’t be just calling out bigger NIGs there are rules. If he is trying to go all out with that statement then he is clearly going againts the rules.

    THAT ALL

  35. Massiel Says:

WTF. how the hell did NaS f*&k up Hip Hop. he’s the best thing that ever happened to hip hop. soulja boy really thinks that NaS regreted Hip Hop is Dead. give me a break. there was a story behind it. soulja boy is not close to NaS’ talent or eazy e or any of the guys from NWA. soulja boy was in dippers when NaS started coming out with albums.
