As it’s already been stated Asher Roth is Asher Roth and Eminem is Eminem. They are very different people and very different rappers. I’ve never been a big fan of Em but I do respect him. Asher is fresh. People are always looking for that hot new thing while still loving the classics. There is plenty of room for Asher and anyone else that can put out great music that people love.

I think that while there are going to be the inevitable questions of whether or not Asher has a place in hip hop now that Em is back, I feel that’s a question that lies within racist undertones.

White people are the minority in hip hop, like it or not, and it’s a situation where a lot of fans of hip hop have this idea that white rapper=gimmick. It’s cool to have limited exposure to, but let’s not over do it, ya know?

And that basically does a disservice to not only Asher and any other white rapper out there coming up, but also does a great disservice to Eminem. It marginalizes and minimizes Asher into nothing but a gimmick, and it puts an unGodly amount of pressure on Eminem as THE white rapper. As if there is only one, like the Highlander.

There are other white rappers out there that are good, but it seems that people only want to focus on one at a time. It’s pretty much the same thing in Boxing with the racist “Great White Hype” moniker, only created to hype up racial tensions in the fight between Gerry Cooney and Larry Holmes.

of course theres room for two white rappers in the mainstream or otherwise, the issue is that asher roth is basically a toned down em for the burbs, same sounding voice, VERY similar rhyme schemes and usage of syllables, and well, somewhat similar appearance. asher roth has paid 0 dues, that mixtape doesnt even have an original frickin beat on it and the singles he has out are garbage (with the exception of lark on my gokart, which thrives solely off of the AMAZING ass beat behind it, big ups to Oren of New Kingdom, watch out for them thats the band to be watching). i just dont see the appeal of this guy unless you are one of those tard-o’s who spends their life stuck in teeny bopper mode. i went to college and enjoyed it, but i didnt need a stupid fucking anthem to remind me of that.

I saw him on his Rap City freestyle trying to seem deep and standing with Philly in the backdrop tying to make it seem like it was his town, when we all know he’s probably never even crossed over 69th street. He would’ve been bitched around in The Haverford School, led alone anywhere near Philly. I remember when I saw one white rapper was from Clifton awhile back I wondered how he had cred outside of there(even though now I know that dude is talented and is obviously known for a reason), but compared to West Chester, Clifton might as well be Southwest or something. I mean seriously, a kid from West Chester, are you fucking kidding me?

Oh, and don’t be hatin’ on him for not earning his stripes and paying his dues, he’s talked in interviews about how he battled in West Chester and on the radio and whatnot, he clearly earned his stripes. But seriously, you all know he couldn’t have survived the real suburban underground led alone the Philly underground. He did what was clearly the only thing he could possibly do to get into hip-hop, bypassed the underground by whoring himself out on myspace, and then using his pathetic gimmick nonstop to appeal to the only people who will ever think this kid is real. You have to admit, it was a smart decision. He’s paving the way for wiggers who freestyle amongst their equally privileged white schoolmates on private school-yards everywhere.

Asher is nothin compared to Eminem. I mean seriously,the only thing Asher talks about is sex, drugs, getting screwed up on stuff and thats it. Em actually talks about real life, family, his past. Eminem is REAL and down to earth so you can relate. he doesn’t go on like Asher does; the college life. Not everybody is STILL in college, and what are you gonna listen to when you want to listen to music about REAL LIFE not just about drugs and this head-in-the-clouds music.
