Review: The Cool Kids - The Bake Sale EP

Written By: TheProdigy
OVERALL RATING:
The Midwest has been becoming the hottest region in hip hop today as it is the home of many of today’s elite hip hop artists such as Eminem, Kanye West, and Lupe Fiasco. It is no different with The Cool Kids.
The Bake Sale EP is their latest release and it is almost identical to their last EP Totally Flossed. There are only two new tracks; which makes me wonder why they even released this. This is a good little prequel leading into their upcoming mixtape entitled That’s Stupid.
The Cool Kids - Black Mags
The key track is obviously Black Mags as it’s the track that’s the bumps for a Real Rhapsody commercial and is their first single. 88 has an incredible beat produced by Matt Obrero with serviceable lyrics to boot. What It Is has another on point beat and the flow from both of the kids was great. Basement Party contains an up tempo beat and sounds like a blatant attempt at airplay.
My favorite track off the EP is Jingling. Chuck gives us an amazing verse to kick it off and there was no looking back after that. Gold and A Pager has amazing lyrical vibes, but that’s about it. In One,Two they actually compare themselves to the Beastie Boys, but The Cool Kids performed no where near Beastie Boy quality.
Overall, The Bake Sale is acceptable. It delivers some hot tracks like Jingling and What It Is, but it has its weak points, which luckily for them are mainly in the first half of the EP. If The Cool Kids want to be known as an elite group from the Midwest they’re going to have to step it up with their debut, but I do recommend you give this a listen because some of the tracks are commendable.
Top 5:
Jingling
88
What It Is
Gold and a Pager
Black Mags

I disagree with what you said about bassment party. those verses are fire. No one else can write like that. Its dope as hell. i would give this a 4.5 out of 5. would be a 5 but not enough new tracks
