They probably just thought,

“I know, black people like kool aid right? So lets market it to them. But how? I know, their good at basketball, so lets have our kool aid mascot playing Ball!”

And voila, you have the Ad.

I doubt their intention was to be offensive. Just tryin to capitalise on their dominant market share of that paticular sector.

Jesus, fact is that black people do like kool-aid and if they switch the name from cherry to red or grape to purple then you can start scratching your head.
